Sharmilaa Thakur - GCC GSSC Expertise
Four builds. One repeatable capability: turning a blank sheet into a scaled, high-functioning global operation. Establishing & Scaling Global Capability Centres Global Shared Service Centre.
Over 25 years, I've been the person a CEO or Board calls when a global capability centre needs to be built from nothing, scaled fast, and transformed into more efficient, more technical operation. Below is the track record — not as a list of job titles, but as four concrete builds, each with what I inherited, what I did, and what it became.
Mobily : GCC-to-Systems-Integrator Transformation
Feb 2026 – Present | India, Egypt, KSA
Execution: Reporting directly to the CEO, I'm leading the full transformation of the GCC into a Systems Integrator across a multi-year roadmap spanning three geographies. Authored a year-by-year workforce and cost plan through 2030. Redesigned the end-to-end grade and career architecture with parallel technical and managerial tracks. Built workforce plans for all 7 Centres of Excellence, including ground-up ServiceNow, Quality Engineering & Test Automation, and Cloud CoE build-outs. Overhauled compensation and career-grading frameworks across India, KSA, and Egypt in line with Mercer, Korn Ferry, Aon, and WTW methodology. Established the organization's AI Governance Policy and AI Usage Policy, positioning HR as the authority on responsible AI adoption. Led a Board-directed retention strategy and launched a flagship Leadership Academy.
Result (in progress): A GCC actively converting into a full-scale Systems Integrator — the rarer, more technically demanding transformation beyond a standard shared-services build, with governance, workforce architecture, and AI-readiness being built in parallel rather than sequentially.
Bureau Veritas Global Shared Services Centre
2014–2023| India, France, Malaysia
Execution: Built the India GSSC from zero, personally owning the 8-year scale-up. Set up parallel shared service centres in France and Malaysia. Piloted SAP SuccessFactors across four countries. Consolidated 7 fragmented payroll processes into a single unified system serving 15,000+ employees pan-India. Led global compensation architecture, succession planning, and DEI initiatives across three continents. Managed a successful TUPE transition that grew the workforce by 60% while preserving cultural integration. Also partnered with business leadership to establish a dedicated EV R&D and Testing Centre, and launched a cross-functional Innovation Lab connecting engineers, data scientists, and operations.
Result: A global shared services powerhouse — 875 professionals in India, 345+ in France, 250 in Malaysia, plus a separate Global Finance Operations build to 280+ headcount — supporting 3,800+ employees worldwide, with administrative overhead cut 30% through HRIS/ATS automation.
Assign Ventures
2007–2012 | India, USA
Execution: Established the Offshore Development Centre's people architecture in Noida. Led the C-Change organizational development initiative to reshape processes and culture. Revamped the compensation and benefits structure, aligned it to performance and role-based structures, and implemented SAP HRIS and Success Factors. Designed a competency model and formal career/succession pathways. Converted an underutilized Java bench into India's earliest Interwoven-skilled team, scaling one client project from 3 to 20 FTEs.
Result: A 1,000+ resource centre with a mature performance-linked compensation system, formal career architecture, and a proven model for converting bench capacity into billable technical capability.
CinCom Systems
2000–2004 | USA, Australia, India
Execution: Collaborated directly with the Global Managing Director to establish a Global Shared Service Centre from scratch in New Delhi. Built out talent acquisition, performance management, Compensation-Based Incentive Tracking (CBIT), Rewards & Recognition, and Employee Relations infrastructure as the centre scaled. Owned end-to-end HR operations for the growing technical workforce.
Result: A 1,015-person IT professional delivery centre — a 200x scale-up from the original 5-person footprint, built entirely from a standing start.
GCC GSSC Expertise - One Pattern, Proven Four Times
Four builds, one pattern: I don't just stabilise a shared services centre — I architect the systems, governance, and career structures that let it scale sustainably, then adapt those foundations as the mandate evolves (support function → technical capability → systems integrator). If your organization is building, scaling, or transforming a GCC, this is the exact problem I've solved four times.
